A painting is a story for the viewer. My main goal in my work is to leave the viewer with questions about the meaning of the piece. My choice of color for my work tends to light and cheerful and I put innocuous and sometimes humorous images into them as well. Every object is carefully considered and I put a lot of thought goes into the placement. I paint both on flat canvas and textured multi media surfaces. In some cases the inspiration for the subject matter comes from photographs I’ve taken in others I work more spontaneously and the paintings build upon themselves without prior intent. One particular location, a long abandoned boarding house with items left in it out of place for over 100 years has provided me with a great deal of ideas for subject matter. The end result with my work is the viewer gets sense of light heartedness at first glance followed by uneasiness upon deeper contemplation and the reading of the title.
